(NY DAILY NEWS) – A Long Island man was arrested for fatally stabbing his mother during a lethal family fracas inside their suburban home, police said.
Christopher Storm Harrison, 26, was charged with second-degree murder in the Friday night fight that left Joyce Skarka dead inside the residence in Center Moriches, L.I., cops said.
Cops arrived at the two-story home on Union Ave. at 9:41 p.m. Friday to find the 53-year-old Skarka’s dead body.
Harrison was taken into custody by homicide detectives and jailed pending a Sunday arraignment.
No additional details came from cops, including the source of the deadly dispute in the home shared by the suspect, his mother and younger sister.
Neighbor Doug Virkus said he woke up around 8:30 a.m. Saturday and saw emergency vehicles lining the street and yellow crime scene tape around Skarka’s home.
He went across the street, where other neighbors were trying to figure out what happened.
“I was in shock,” Virkus said. “You don’t really know what to make of it.”
Another neighbor named Matt recalled seeing Harrison outside raking leaves.
“He seemed normal,” Matt said of the alleged killer. “They kept to themselves as I try to do.”
Skarka, a single mother and real estate agent, was rarely home but still remained close to her children, according to those who knew the family.
“I remember (Skarka) being very close to the kids and very loving,” said former neighbor Jennica Nill. “(She) was a very dedicated mom.”
