(SNO) – A group of 30 talented young Saint Lucians landed this week in Jamaica, where they will represent their schools in regional sporting competition.
2017 inter-school netball champions Soufrière Secondary and runners-up Micoud Secondary are taking part in the the Netball Americas Champion of Champions High School Tournament, which will be held from Sunday, July 15th 2018 to Saturday, July 21st 2018.
The Micoud team includes Darcelle Francis, Kiana Nelson, Michege Rodolph, Jermia Sonson, Mea Raggie, Chelsea Vidal, Alana Gaston, Merkissa Theodule, Nadline Evans, Semak Marguerite and Chrissa Henery. The tema is being managed by school principal, Flora Joseph. The coaches are Shem Maxwell and Firma Clive-Sonson, whilst Merica Moncherry is also accompanying the team as primary care giver.
Soufrière is represented by a strong congingent that includes Canaries star Megan Nestor, along with Mia Peter, Syanne Allain, Camilla Lansiquot, Rufiana Jn Phillip, Janyah Paul, Tancy Pascal Matthew, Monique Philgence, Richelle James, Teffany Jn Pierre and Lucyanne Auguste. The management team comprises Chrisentia Combie (manager), and coaches Shenell Ferguson and Melita Hippolyte.
Micoud are set to play Christ Church Foundation (Barbados), Holmwood Technical (Jamaica), Dominica State College, Scarborough Secondary (Trinidad and Tobago), and Central Leeward (St Vincent and the Grenadines) in Pool A. Soufrière meets Anglican High (Grenada), N. E. Comprehensive (Dominica), Toco Secondary (Trinidad and Tobago), Springer Memorial (Barbados) and Excelsior High (Jamaica).
Both teams have been preparing assiduously, honing their bodies and minds to prepare for this high-level challenge.
