PRESS RELEASE – Celestial Self Development Centre is inviting Saint Lucians to celebrate the love for reading with the next generation through its annual reading campaign during the month of May which is designated as Reading month.
This year’s challenge is titled, “Fall in love with Reading” which is a reading competition and also a social media awareness campaign dedicated to promoting children’s literacy and reading at any age. The campaign invites adults over the age of 16 to read two books from Celestial’s library during the month of May and ending on Monday 13th June, 2016 after which they will be entered in a draw with a chance to win for the school or organisation of their choosing a donation of children’s books.
During the challenge, readers are encouraged to share their love of reading on social media using the hashtag #Ilove2read, and to join together with friends and fellow readers around a common cause.
All readers are encouraged to join the “Fall in love with Reading” challenge by using the hashtag #Ilove2read and to visit Celestial’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Celestialsdc to make a contribution. Research has shown that reading for pleasure plays a vital role: just ten minutes reading a day with a child makes a huge difference and helps them fall in love with reading, meaning children do better at school, and better in the workplace.
In addition to the challenge Celestial Self Development Centre will be making a donation of Children’s books to the Marchand Combined School and also plans on hosting a Storytime session with Grade 1 students from the school on Monday 30th May, 2016. This is fourth year that Celestial Self Development Centre has participated in this campaign to create more avid readers amongst our student population through the donations of books to several schools in Castries and its environs.
