LIME and C-PAF Team up to boost St. Lucia’s creative industries

BALLET-1---copiePRESS RELEASE – LIME is helping to give a boost to St. Lucia’s creative industries.

The nation’s leading telecommunications provider has been avid supporter of the local creative sector, having pumped several million dollars into the visual, literary and performing arts over the years.

This week LIME teamed up with the Caribbean Performing Arts Federation (C-PAF) by sponsoring a Kweyol showcase for Kweyol Heritage Month organised by C-PAF in collaboration with Alliance Francaise, the Vide Bouteille Cultural Club and the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries.

The event was held Friday at the Vide Bouteille Cultural Club. It was aimed at promoting the cultural and creative industries in St. Lucia and the OECS, particularly the performing arts, and creating an enabling environment for artistes and entrepreneurs within the creative sectors.

The event featured performances by renowned French Kweyol performance poet, Black Kalagan and several St Lucian artistes. It culminated with a Kweyol production featuring Black Kalagan along with Yannick James and Cleopatra Jules and a number of other local performers. Participants at the event also got the opportunity to network and exchange ideas on how performers and entrepreneurs could capitalize on business opportunities within the regional creative sectors.

LIME Commercial Lead, Cheryl Francis, told participants at the Kweyol Showcase that understanding the economic potential that the arts and culture offer, both directly and indirectly is fundamental to St. Lucia’s success as a nation.

“We believe the creative industries have the potential to be one of the most vibrant parts of our economy – and one of our greatest strengths as a nation. That’s why LIME continues to be one of the biggest corporate contributors to the arts and has financed the development of many St. Lucians in all areas of the creative industries. We remain committed to continuing our tradition of supporting St. Lucia’s artistes and performers,” Ms Francis added.

Over the years, LIME has helped to boost the careers of numerous artistes and sponsored a wide range of arts events and organisations. Cable & Wireless St. Lucia was the original creator of the hugely popular Star Quest talent competition, which helped launch the career of St. Lucian singing sensation, Emrand Henry in 2003. The show was subsequently replicated by C&W business units in other Caribbean islands.

LIME has also been a big sponsor of carnival, pageant shows and calypso tents, as well as St Lucia Jazz.

  1. I live in London and I get the same thing too, like you I don't want to be Jamaican and I hate it when people think I am, not that I have anything against them. Proud to be from my beautiful island St. Lucia.


  2. I live in England and born St. Lucian I think this is a good idea of lifting this culture. I think they just need to make the youth be more interested, maybe by designing the costume/ clothes so the youth can like it and can be proud to wear everyday. Also WORDS OF ADVICE, to market it to the bigger countries or commercial country fast because if they don't other countries will copy and they will get the credit. For example in England when a Caribbean person speak with an accent different from their one, the English person will say they came from Jamaica (this really irritating, I not Jamaican and don’t want to be) because Jamaican culture is more commercialized so in theory Jamaican will be recognized and get the credits/ more tourist.
