PRESS RELEASE – It was a momentous occasion for the Lightning Aquatics (LA) Swim Club on Saturday, July 11, 2015 when they won the 1st place trophy at the inaugural Karen Beaubrun Swim Meet. Nineteen LA swimmers participated in the competition which was held at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre.
A few Lightning Aquatics swimmers were successful in getting top spots in their respective age groups. Zoe Bernard won 1st place and Karissa Ramkhelawan placed 2nd in the girls 8 and under category; Karic Charles tied for the 1st place spot and Ethan Hazell copped 3rd place for the boys 8 and under category; Naima Hazell secured 1st place for the girls 9 to 10 age group while Mikaili Charlemagne walked away with 2nd place in the girls 11 to 12 age category.
LA’s Head Coach, Roosevelt Romain said, “I am very proud of my swimmers and the club’s achievements in obtaining the 1st place trophy at the first Karen Beaubrun swim meet. I commend the parents for their everyday involvement and commitment to their kids in the sport of swimming.
Congratulations to all swimmers achieving PB’s (personal best times) from the Lightning Aquatic Swim Club and those who won medals for their age group. My dedication to the team, my job and the swimmers has enabled the club to accomplish a lot over the past years and I will continue to do my best in every way possible to maintain the success of my swimmers and Lightning Aquatics Swim Club”.
The beaming Coach Romain went on, “I want to congratulate the other competing clubs and all the other coaches that give their best every day at the pool to ensure their swimmers do their best at meets like these”.
According to the LA Swim Club President, Mrs. Tessa Charles-Louis, “The Board is extremely proud of all our swimmers who participated in the competition. This outstanding performance will undoubtedly serve to bolster the team’s confidence and will motivate the youngsters to give of their utmost at the upcoming Goodwill Games in Trinidad slated for August 14-16, 2015”. Nine LA members were selected to represent Saint Lucia at this regional competition.
Additionally, this victory comes on the heels of the team’s outstanding performance at the 24th Annual Aquatic Centre International Swim Meet held in Barbados from June 5-7, 2015. There, the team captured the trophy for the 1st place OECS Team.
The 2015 inaugural Karen Beaubrun Swim Meet was organized by the Sea Jays Swim Club in honour of the late Karen Beaubrun, former Sea Jays Swim Club Coach and mother of Olympian swimmer, Danielle Beaubrun.
