(PRESS RELEASE) — The Lightning Aquatic (LA) Swim Club has continued to demonstrate their support to the
government and people of Saint Lucia by donating school supplies to the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, Local Government and Empowerment.
The ceremony was held at the Ministry’s Conference Room on Friday, September 20, 2019.
Public Relations Officer Ms. Karette Crooks-Charles expressed her enthusiasm in assisting the poor and vulnerable in Saint Lucia.
“This is our third year doing this initiative which is called Lighting Aquatics Walk In My Shoes initiative. This year it is much bigger. We now have quite a large variety. Last year we focused on shoes but this year we were overwhelmed with the long list of persons in need. So we have decided to give more,” Crooks-Charles said.
She also mentioned that there was an urgent demand for school uniforms, stationery, and book.
“This is what we have tried to accomplish,” she added.
The supplies ranged from school pants, shoes, notebooks, storybooks, school-socks, school uniforms, and stationery.
Deputy Director of the Welfare Unit, Ms. Tanzia Toussaint, extended special thanks to the donors for the much-needed books and supplies.
“Thanks for the support, thanks for caring and most of all thanks for making the effort every year to make ‘Walk In My Shoes’ continuous. It began three years ago and it has continued. Do not think that your gifts or donations are just for the Castries basin. They are donated evenly throughout the island and the welfare officers are here to facilitate this process,” Toussaint said.
Lightning Aquatics (LA) Swim Club is the winner of the coveted Club of the Year Award for 2017.
