Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Castries South Dr. Robert Lewis has hinted that United Workers Party (UWP) candidate Mary Isaac will not secure a win at the polls.
Dr. Lewis told the local media on Friday (Jan.29) that the UWP candidate will “feel the full pleasure and displeasure” of majority of the people of Castries South, just before and after the next elections.
“There was another person who said he could ‘get it done’ and everybody in Saint Lucia knows what was done and she will feel the full pleasure of the people,” he asserted.
The Education Minister, who recently announced that he is bowing out of elective politics, maintains that it was his personal decision and he was not forced in any way to quit.
Questioned by the media about speculations that he sold his seat, Dr. Lewis said, “There is a lot of stupidity in Saint Lucia that you ought not to answer to.”
He continued, “When I came into politics it’s because people came to my house to ask me to represent them. I have to make my own decision as to when I leave politics.”
Asked about his performance in office as Castries South MP, Dr. Lewis said, “I don’t want to answer to critics. The UWP, whoever their supporters are, could say whatever they want.”
There is speculation that Chairman of the Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP) Ernest Hilaire, could replace Dr. Lewis to contest the seat at the next general elections.
