Leo Club of Castries celebrate International Leo Day

PRESS RELEASE – The Lions Club of Castries joins with lions of MD District 60 and the rest of the world in wishing the members of the Leo clubs of Castries and the Hewanorra plains Leos a Happy International Leo day.

International Leo Day is celebrated every year on December 05 when Lions the world over shift the focus to their youth – our Leos. It is a day set aside to celebrate the work of our young people in service to humanity.

On December 5, Lions and Leos everywhere celebrate International Leo Day to recognize Leo clubs for their service in the community. Youth programs such as the Leo Club help young people develop valuable leadership skills, network with key players in the community and realize the impact of their humanitarian efforts. International Leo Day also helps strengthen the relationship between Lions and Leos, encouraging Leos to continue their service as Lions.

Leo clubs make local communities better places to live through a diverse array of community service projects. The Leo Club of Castries can be seen every first Saturday of the month at the Ave Maria Girls Primary School, serving a hot breakfast to the destitute. Their work with the Diabetes and Hypertension Association is always recognized when they put on a candle-lighting ceremony on November 14, at the end of the moonlight walk to raise awareness of Diabetes.

In Cancer Awareness their continued partnership with Massy Stores in staging the Yoplait walk for Breast Cancer is unwavering. In Sight preservation they work side by side with their parent club the Castries Lions in hosting the Kids-in-Sight programme in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association. They also focus on youth education and development in their contribution to underprivileged school students. Their school socks project and painting of two classrooms of the Odsan Combined School is one such initiative. Visiting and treating the wards of the Boys Training Center on International Children Day show their concern for youth at risk.

In addition, as a youth organization they conduct development workshop for members on topic ranging from Lionism, teamwork, time management to name a few. The Leos do take time to have fun, as young people are noted for, and every month their one social meeting may vary from a movie matinee to a splash at Theme park.

The Leo Club Motto is Leadership, Experience and Opportunity
Leadership – provides an environment to develop skills as project organizer, time manager and team leader.
Experience – Learn how teamwork, cooperation and collaboration can bring exciting changes to your community and the world
Opportunity – make friends and feel the rewards of community service.
If you are between the age of 18 – 30 and want to enjoy the rewards of community service come join us. We can be contacted on Facebook, Instragram or [email protected]

Today in observance of the day the Leos can be seen at work or school wearing their regalias to bring the focus on Leos.

Look out for the members of the Leo Club of Castries on Saturday December 17, 2016 as they serve a hot Christmas lunch to the destitute at the Ave Maria Girls Primary School.
