La Diablesse and Maji Blanc in the Pinehill Fun Walk? (Letter to the Editor)

Dear Editor:
I started my 2014 Pinehill Fun Walk a bit late but I intended to use that day to walk for my health and not for medals. I consoled myself with the thought that I will pass many stragglers along the way despite my late start.

The walk was quite enjoyable and filled with moments of humour. For example I met three young men in numbered Pinehill shirts who were drinking their rum and beers from an open cooler located at a bus shelter in Marisule. I asked one of them, who I know quite well, whether that was where their Walk ended and he promptly replied that his location, next to the beer and rum cooler at Marisule, was where their Walk started!

I proceeded along my merry way and passed two young women in Bois D’Orange, opposite the old Sunset Motors location. I began to pass many stragglers on the Mongiraud Hill and this trend continued until I reached Massade near the Massade Industrial Estate. To my great surprise I encountered the same two young women whom I had passed in Bois D’Orange but they were now ahead of me in Massade and another young woman was taking a picture of them and I overheard her saying that they had made it!

I was about to open my big mouth to expose them, to say that they had cheated and got a lift, since I just passed them in Bois D’Orange, but the thought came to me that they might be two La Diablesse or La Diablesses who had mysteriously appeared ahead of me in broad daylight!

Garcon, the people just appear in front of me like two La Diablesse! I was sore afraid that if I exposed them they would come back for me so from that point on I put some pep in my step to put as much distance between me and the two La Diablesse or is it La Diablesses. Luckily I did not encounter them again before the Finish Line at Pigeon Point but a friend who noticed my late start wondered how I reached the Finish Line so quickly. I did not tell her about my frightening encounter with the two La Diablesse or La Diablesses and how I got the inspiration to finish the remainder of the Walk, in record time, with that unusual burst of energy and adrenaline!

Perhaps they were not La Diablesse or Diablesses after all because when I saw them the second time they seemed to have deteriorated rather than get more beautiful!

So remember ladies if you take part in the Pinehill Fun Walk next year please do not have us on any La Diablesse vibes and for the fellas who cheat for every Pinehill Walk do not bring your Maji Blanc vibes to the Walk! They must be Maji Blanc (White Magic) and not Maji Noir (Black Magic) because they normally dress in white Pinehill shirts. I now suspect that the young men next to the beer (and rum) cooler at Marisule had already noticed or checked all the La Diablesse and Maji Blanc vibes and decided that they could not overcome these forces so it was better to “fire” a few cold ones whilst planning the strategy for next year.

Looking forward to next year’s Pinehill Fun Walk without the La Diablesses and Maji Blanc.

E D KWEE- QUACK!

  1. quick solution: they give wrist bands to everyone at the start of the walk and only on the day in question. the bands should be such that if you remove it you cannot put it back on. every one who would have started at the start would come to the finish line with a wrist band on their wrist. its up to you if you decide to move it along the way... then those who would have joined at different points other than the start will not get to the finish line with a wrist band and if you remove the wrist band and still reach early enough to get a medal, you should not get one as long as you don't have the wrist band on your wrist.

  2. It is now time for Peter and Co to looking into getting timing chips. Mats will be placed from the start, Finish and all along the course. If you don't start at the starting point you don't get a time nor will your appear in the results. The mats along the way will act as check points. It won't stop people from running so all Peter/Co has to do is to change the name to FUN RUN/WALK.

  4. My suggestion to the organizers to take care of the cheaters is to issue special arm bands at the starting line which must be worn up to the finish line... By so doing, only persons with this arm band will be handed medals..

  5. There is no need to monitor the walk. This would bring an edge to a fun event. The folks who honestly strive to finish are always the big winners. After all, the whole thing is about personal health. If you participated and completed the walk, you are a winner because you met your personal goal. Forget about the medal grabbers because they are fooling themselves...and they know it.

  6. year after year its the same with this pinehill walk, people you pass doing the walk genuinely reach the finish line with medals before you. who took rides or had a early start. thats why as i have noticed this i just do the walk for walking n health reasons and don't look at the cheats. there should be better monitoring of this walk.

  7. I saw persons walking as early as 35 minutes before the official start off time. That says alot about us as a people.

  8. I feel so cheated after training the entire year and the "black magic" thing worked. I didn't win any medal but I can safely say I made
it, from Vigie to P Point.

    • Trust me be proud of that. If your life depended on walking frm Vigie to Pigeon Point you know you will survive. we can not say the same for the cheats. You would swear is an Olympic medal they giving, ppl cheating for that.

  9. That's why we have thieves. They start with petty things and end up cheating and stealing a whole lot more. LMAO

  10. Some people forgot about the health aspects only cheating to get medals. They have no conscience--riding on cars, mini buses, jumping in line on the way from bushes. Most of them think it was cool in full view of genuine walkers. However i focused on my goal to finish and i did.Lol

  11. I started at Jn. Marie gas station and ended at Pigeon Island very proud of myself......what's disappointing is see persons on buses alone the route and next thing they getting medals.....RCI, Digicel and Peter and Company needs to look for away to stop persons from cheating.

  12. Every year this is done, from the inception of the walk. The promoters still don't take note. They should stop handing out medals ed of story.

  13. Well Lucians don't do anything straight because I started off Vigie with my frens and all along the way lots of people cheated just coming out from buses cars ect, whiles the others did the hold thing now whe they finish flashing medals in your face, well it was a pine hill fun walk,we walk and had fun

  14. For sure I enjoyed my pinehill fun walk and now I'm in pain but it was worth it... I can proudly say I walked from Vigie to Castries without cheating unlike some people... And I find it's unfair to others who start from the starting line while some take bus or start wherever they feel like jus for a medal

    • I agree. The last time I did that walk i walked all the way. Ended the race barefoot because I just could not keep the shoes on anymore. Some people I knew took a ride and arrived way before me. They got a medal and I didn't. i don't think there are ways to monitor this thing. People just have to be honest.
