PRESS RELEASE – The La Clery District Football team riding on a high at the moment have booked their place into the 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament set to kick off on Saturday September 20th at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The lads from La Clery earned their right to participate in this year’s tournament after a two nil extra time win over Mon Repos in the play off final played Saturday evening at the Soufriere MinI Stadium.
In an exciting encounter with action from start to finish Mon Repos looked the better team on the night but they failed to capitalize on the several chances they had and it was La Clery who defended stoutely and took their chances and are now in the tournament proper for 2014.
La Clery’s goals came in the 107th and 109th minutes of extra time after the ninty minutes of regulation time ended goaless. Their first a spectacular long range effort from about 40 yards was scored by Jamaican born VSADC defender Steve Rhone and the second an unchallenged run on goal after picking up a loose ball after a mistake by a Mon Repos defender and was calmy slotted home by prolific La Clery striker Johnathan “gangally” Allain.
This mean ‘s La Clery’s name will be among the 16 participants for the 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament when the draw is made later this week.
And speaking about Draw the Press and tournament launch and fixture draw for the tournament will take place on Wednesday evening September 10th from 7.00 p.m. upstairs the players pavilion at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
Meantime Teams have been continuing their preparations for the tournament with a number of warm up matches. Saturday evening at the Soufriere MinI Stadium home team Soufriere registered a four goals to one win over Vieux Fort North.
Soufriere were led to victory by Jordan Henry who scored two goals and there was a goal each to Ned Etang and Edil Charlery.
Yesterday at the Gros Islet playing field Defending champions Gros Islet had a three goals to one win over Babonneau in a repeat of last year’s Blackheart Finals.
Scoring for Gros Islet were Troy Greenidge, Otev Lawrence and Aramis Lord Gilbert.
