Kweisi Clarke, who was hit from his bicycle by a car exactly one week ago in Vieux Fort, has succumbed to his injuries.

Relatives say the 16-year-old from La Ressource, Vieux Fort died this evening, April 19. He was in a coma at St. Jude’s Hospital following the accident.

Clarke was among a group of three boys riding bicycles – with a fourth friend walking – along on the Vieux Fort-Laborie Highway on Saturday, April 12 when tragedy struck.

The car struck Clarke, hurling him into the air, causing extensive damage to the bicycle as well as the car.

However, relatives and friends of Clarke said the driver should not have been released from police custody. One of Clarke’s friend alleged that the driver was overtaking.

  5. Its high time that the government invest in some side walks for its pedestrians and riders. I can count the number of communities/highways with adequate sidewalks in Saint Lucia. it is so sad that had to happen to this young man.
