His bags are packed, but apparently Kimani Melius is keeping his run scoring shoes right where they belong… on his feet.
The 14-year-old West indies Under-15 batsman took part in two more matches at the Beausejour Cricket Ground over the weekend, as part of the Sandals Foundation Cricket Camp, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports.
Having made 115 on Friday, Kimani hit 129 on Saturday, his 10th century, to led his team to a good victory over Garvin Serieux’s team in a 50-over-a-side match.
Kimani’s team rang up 302/9, the skipper’s 129 incorporating 22 fours and two sixes. Dominic Auguste made a well played 63 with 11 fours, Xystus Emmanuel 30, Olarry Alfred 17 not out and Zidane Arthur 10. For Serieux’s team, the chief wicket taker was Hanif Antoine who picked up 4-32 in 10 overs.
In reply, Serieux’s team finished on 221 all out in 43.1 overs, Lee Solomon top scoring with with an attacking knock of 84 (nine fours, four sixes), Hanif Antoine a controlled knock of 57 with five fours and a six. Bowling for Team Kimani, Olarry Alfred was 3-3 in his sole over, whilst the skipper himself took 2-45 in six overs.
On Sunday, in a 40-overs-a-side match, Kimani’s team faced off against an XI led by Dhan-Raj Chaz Cepal. Cepal’s team made 191 all out in the 40th over, Garvin Serieux 39, Chaz 36, Hanif 29, Shelton St Rose 14 and Keygan Arnold 10. Simeon Gerson took 4-32 in eight overs, Zidane Arthur 2-9 in two overs, Udell Preville 2-23 in three overs.
Kimani’s team easily overhauled their target, finishing on 192/5 in 28.3 overs, the skipper leading the way with 62, Rene Montoute 29, Xystus Emmanuel 27, Dominic Auguste 24 and Jelani Cupid 21. For Cepal’s team, his younger brother Joshua Cepal finished with 2-19 in 5 overs.
