(PRESS RELEASE) – In a time where the world has been on a standstill because of the global pandemic, Coronavirus, one young man from the constituency of Gros Islet, Kenson “Bay Bay” Casimir, has taken the initiative to launch a virtual Gros Islet Friday Night fundraiser for the street vendors whose income depended on this local weekly event, which attracted visitors to the island.
The Virtual Friday Night Fundraiser will be held on social media on Friday May 8th from 8pm. The event will feature local artists, djs and performers who have come together in the spirit of raising funds for the Gros Islet Vendors’ Association who have been heavily affected by the lack of tourism arrivals.
“I grew up in Gros Islet, and I know that these vendors depend on that money from the Gros Islet Friday Night to ensure that they make ends meet,” Kenson said. “Many of them believe that they do not make enough to pay NIC contributions and we need to put mechanisms in place to assist them and also educate them on the importance of making those contributions. Right now, many of those vendors have no idea when they will make another dollar and they need to feed their families. This is why I recommend a Virtual Friday Night fundraiser, where persons can come together to assist those families,” he added.
Kenson calls on community leaders, persons from the community and the diaspora to participate in this venture, which promises to be fun, whilst donating to a worthy cause. He encourages persons to invite their friends to this virtual party, to dress up and make online contributions in the form of virtual eats and drinks. Local artists such as Ezra D’ Fun Machine and Cooyah have already pledged their support to this worthwhile venture.
