West Indies opening batsman Johnson Charles will turn out for the Windward Islands Volcanoes.
Last season, the Volcanoes completed just two of three scheduled matches, winning one and losing the other to miss out on the knockout stages. On that occasion, Charles was joined by fellow Saint Lucians Craig Emmanuel, Taryck Gabriel, and and Keddy Lesporis.
There was a notable milestone for Charles in the 2015 season, as he hit 177 in a Player Of The Match performance against Barbados. The Volcanoes earned a 55-run win, but Charles’ 177 off 124 balls was the highest score in the tournament’s 42-year history.
Beginning on Thursday, 7 January, the Volcanoes will be playing in Zone B in Saint Kitts-Nevis. The sub-regional side opens its campaign against Guyana, with two further matches against Combined Campuses and Leeward Islands and another against Guyana.
If they finish in the top two, the Windwards would advance to the semifinals in Trinidad and Tobago from 20 January. Since the 1972-73 season, the Windward Islands have only won the limited-overs tournament on three occasions.
