GIS – The newly appointed ambassador of Japan to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada, yesterday presented his credentials to Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy.
Okada expressed his commitment to the development of Saint Lucia.
“On this special occasion, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to your Excellency for your government’s invaluable cooperation extended to Japan in the international arena, such as the United Nations and the International waiting commission. Thanks to the continued support of your government, Saint Lucia and Japan has maintained a close relationship in various areas and the cooperation for the fisheries sector is particularly significant.”
Governor General of Saint Lucia, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy welcomed the new ambassador on his tour of duty.
“Over the years we have shared a philosophical common ground on major issues, particularly the reform of the United Nations, the sustainable use of whale resources, international security and peace building measures and in this regard, we have been pleased to support Japan in the international arena. Saint Lucia is particularly grateful to Japan for the significant contribution it has been making to the development of our fisheries sector, a sector which is the economic bedrock of so many of our coastal communities.”
In addition, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for the assistance of Japanese volunteers through the Japanese Overseas Cooperation Program.
It has been 35 years since Saint Lucia first established diplomatic ties with Japan.
