A retreat on the economy will be held in early January, well before the presentation of the 2014/2015 budget.
This was announced by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Dr. Kenny Anthony.
This retreat, which will bring together the Government, private sector organisations and trade unions, will allow for a statement to be made by the Government, another by the private sector, and one by the trade unions, acting collectively.
The Government will update its social partners on the state of the economy, and the challenges faced by the country. The rest of the session will be devoted to finding common ground on the challenges that the country faces, and the way forward to successfully tackle these.
To advance the preparations for this meeting, the parties have agreed to establish a planning committee, chaired by Dr. Alison Plummer, permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister.
