Jamaica: Pregnant woman killed as gunmen shoot 5; suspect held

(JAMAICA OBSERVER) — A Portland man has been taken into police custody in relation to the shooting death of a pregnant woman and the injuring of four others in Lower Layton, Orange Bay in the parish this morning.

A second man is still at large the police have reported.

According to reports from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Kimberley Baugh who was five months pregnant was among a group of relatives conducting a cleaning up exercise after a party about 3:15 am when it is alleged that they were approached by two armed men.

CCU said the two men opened gunfire on the group and after the shooting subsided, it was discovered that the five people were injured.

The police were subsequently summoned and the five taken to hospital where 24-year-old Baugh died and the other four relatives admitted in stable condition.

The identity of the suspect has been withheld pending further investigation.
