gavel(JAMAICA OBSERVER) — A man was fined $500,000 or 12 months in prison after he sent several obscene photographs and over 200 WhatsApp messages to the cellphone of the current boyfriend of his ex-lover.
The man, who appeared before Senior Parish Judge Vaughn Smith yesterday, reportedly sent the pictures and messages in August 2016.
It was reported that the complainant and the accused man had been involved in an intimate relationship whereby they would communicate via WhatsApp messenger and the complainant would send nude photos and videos to the accused.
The complainant had sought to discontinue the relationship between her and the accused. However, he threatened to expose her photos and videos if she would not visit with him.
She agreed to continue seeing the accused for a while but eventually cut ties with him.
The court heard that it was after she cut ties with him that she discovered that the nude photographs and videos she sent him had been forwarded to her current boyfriend.
She made a report to the police whereby she identified the photographs on the cellphone of her boyfriend as being those she had taken and sent only to the accused.
She also identified the cellphone number used to send the photographs and video to her current boyfriend as that belonging to the accused.
Following the report, the accused man was arrested and charged with malicious communication.
