Jamaica: Elderly woman found with throat cut

(JAMAICA STAR) — Residents of Salters Hill, St James, are still trying to come to terms with the gruesome discovery of the partially decomposed body of an elderly woman at her home in the community on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as 64-year-old Elveta ‘Vita’ Miller. Reports by the Amity Hall police are that shortly after 2:40 p.m., one of Miller’s relatives went in search of her, after she had not been seen or heard from since Monday.

Upon reaching Miller’s home, the relative smelled a foul odour coming from the board dwelling and went to investigate.

The relative stumbled upon Miller’s body which was lying in a pool of blood inside a room.

The police were summoned and upon arrival, they processed the scene. They report that Miller’s throat was slashed and her underwear pulled down to her ankles. Early indications are she may have also been robbed.

Residents say Miller was a very hard-working woman, and a very popular higgler who was always in a hurry to get to the market to sell her provisions.

“Vita nuh do nobody nutten, and she always a try fi mek life and di wicked boy dem come kill har off,” a resident told THE STAR.

In the meanwhile, the police say they are following some strong leads and expect to make an early breakthrough.
