(JAMAICA OBSERVER) — The police are reporting the seizure of three firearms, including an AK-47 assault rifle, in separate incidents since Friday.
The constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), said the AK-47 rifle, along with an empty magazine, was found at an abandoned premises on Burgher Lane in Rollington Town, Kingston 2 about 11:20 am on Saturday.
Officers from the Elletson Road Police Station were reportedly searching a section of the community at the time. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure, however the investigation continues.
That same day, a 9mm handgun was seized on Valdez Road in St Catherine. According to reports from the Spanish Town police, officers approached a group of men, who were watching a game of football about 5:45pm.
One of the men allegedly fled and was chased on to a premises, however he escaped, the police said. The premises was searched and the firearm and a magazine containing twelve 9mm cartridges were reportedly found wrapped in a shirt. The police said the search for the suspect continues.
A day earlier, the Manchester police seized a firearm and two rounds of ammunition on Gabby Street in Mandeville in the parish.
Reports are that about 4:30 pm, lawmen were conducting an operation in the community when one .38 revolver loaded with two .38 rounds of ammunition was found at the root of a tree. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
