Racquel John is the 2014 Queen of Gros Islet.

John, 20, of Corinth, Gros Islet, won four awards on her way to victory in the 4th Miss Queen of Gros Islet Pageant held at Sandals Grande in Gros Islet on Sunday, August 31.

The Citizens Jewelry employee won Miss Popularity, Crowd Favourite, Best in Costume and Best Talent.

Okizia Lambert, a Spanish teacher at the Morne Du Don Combined School and Rotaract member, was awarded first runner-up. She also won Best Interview and Best Promotion Speech.

She’nil Emmanuel captured second runner-up.

The other contestants of the ‘Sultry Six’ were Bebiana Mangal who won Miss Photogenic and Best in Swim Wear; Akisha Gideon who won Miss Emnity; and Eslyn Leon who won the award for Most Sold Tickets.

The winner – John – will receive a $16,000 scholarship to Monroe College, St. Lucia campus, among other prizes.

A graduate of the Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School (LHCSS) and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, John has a successful history in pageantry.

She was crowned Miss LHCSS Jounen Kweyol 2009, Miss LHCSS 2010 and Miss St. Lucia’s Most Talented Teen 2010. She placed second runner-up at the 2010 Miss Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Most Talented Teen Pageant in St. Kitts; second runner-up at Miss St. Lucia Independence 2013 and first runner-up in Miss Easterval 2014 in Union Island,

  2. The show was suppose to start at 7.30 never started until 8,35 or there about. Promotional speech was to damn long. My question is if its not a Carnival show why the costumnes? I agree Gros Islet is not achieving anything from that. Which charity is the money going to? Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  3. Racquel you earned the crown honey, congrats......However, this show was not properly organised ... Gros-Islet is not benefiting in anyway so please save us from these pretenders.
