The island’s oldest and largest shooting organization, the Saint Lucia Shooting Association (SLSA), will host its second “Iron and Steel Challenge” on August 25, 2013 at the Bordelais Shooting Range in Dennery.
According to a press release, the event is expected to attract the best shooters on the island and will include a “5 Stages” and “Steel Challenge Speed Shoot” to be done in six categories between ladies, seniors and law enforcement officers and others.
Over 50 shooters from the various institutions around the island have expressed interest in participating in the event, which will be governed under the Practical Shooting Handbook, Latest Edition.
“This tournament will truly be an amazing event and will definitely test the skills of our local and regional shooters. The association is on the verge of implementing more tournaments of that nature and magnitude into the realm of sports shooting in Saint Lucia so the sport continues to flourish,” the release said.
“Come and watch as the various categories battle for the top prizes as they demonstrate their skills and develop the camaraderie in order to complete the various stages with as much speed, accuracy and focus as possible,” the release said.
The association assured that safety is guaranteed at the event.
“As is customary, an event of this nature requires that safety be of paramount importance and officials of the various institutions and the association will provide the management in this regard for the day of the competition,” the release said.
The SLSA was formed in 1994 and is recognized internationally. The association has represented St. Lucia at a number of international shooting events, bringing home various trophies and medals over the years.
The Iron and Steel Challenge will start at 9 a.m. and promises to be the “most thrilling” shoot ever.
“The association takes this opportunity to invite its members, friends and enthusiasts of sports shooting to witness the competition this month,” the association said.
The public is invited to attend as there will be a “viewing gallery with lots of eats and drinks on sale”.
