usa-election-trumpREUTERS – U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump offered fresh details of how he would tackle illegal immigration on Saturday, saying he would crack down on those who overstay their visas as he sought to quiet criticism from conservatives.

In a campaign speech in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump also cited the shooting death of a cousin of NBA star Dwyane Wade to urge African-American voters to rally behind him, calling it an example of violence that has to be addressed.

Trump, speaking on the Iowa State Fairgrounds with hay bales stacked behind him, sought to clarify his views on how to overhaul the U.S. immigration system after saying earlier in the week that he was softening on his plan to deport all 11 million illegal immigrants.

That stance drew fire from conservatives who wanted him to stand fast after he won the Republican presidential nomination in large part by a hardline stance that would include building a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.

In his speech, Trump said he would seek to institute a tracking system to ensure illegal immigrants who overstay their visas are quickly removed, and would propose an e-verify system to prevent the illegal community from gaining access to welfare and other benefits.

  2. People don't be so small minded, look at the whole scenario. Some of these comments here seem to be from mindless people. Please don't forget that some of these people support the st lucia economy. If you think things are hard in St. lucia, now it will only get worse. Even for the ones who have jobs, it affect everyone. When you have more jobless people stressing out the economy, and possibly more criminals, who do you think those criminals are going to steal from, yes those of you who have jobs. Maybe that should be a wake up call for those who overstayed to get their business in order. Some people over stay and doing pappy show, party lifestyle.

  8. The United States should adopt the British rule, being born in the states should not give you an automatic right to becoming an American citizen, it is high time this should stop, no child born in the US from foreign parents should not automatically grant you citizenship.

Donald trump should change all that.

  9. Donald trump should win the presidential vote and send all immigrates back. Immigrates work illegally, have no right of abode, so why stay in someone else"s country and be a burden, go wherever you cine from and live legally.

  10. Good job Mr. Trump. Send the lawbreakers back home. Let them go home and contribute to their countries. We may not like to hear this because we are sue-too-wezz, but we would on the other hand, like to see the illegal immigrants in St. Lucia not be allowed jobs and returned to their country of origin forthwith - think of our opinions of Guyanese, Hatitian, Trini, and Jamaicans living in Lucia and our attitudes towards them. Fair is fair, crime is crime.
