CNN – Pope Francis put his shoulder to the doors of the Catholic Church and shoved them open a little wider Friday, calling for the church to be more tolerant in practice, while not changing any official doctrines.

He urged priests around the world to be more accepting of gay men and lesbians, divorced Catholics and other people living in what the church considers “irregular” situations.

“A pastor cannot feel that it is enough simply to apply moral laws … as if they were stones to throw at people’s lives,” Francis writes in a sweeping paper outlining his stance on family matters.

He urges more common sense and less unthinking following of rules.

“By thinking that everything is black and white, we sometimes close off the way of grace and growth,” he writes.

  1. This man is covering for those so-called Homosexual priest's and maybe himself. HOW can he justify speaking against the person who he claims to be his Boss, the Law Giver; GOD!!??. The Apostle Paul wrote the Bible book of Romans, in chapter 1 verses 24 to 28; it says: Therefore God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonoured among them, even those who exchanged the truth of god for the lie and venerated and rendered sacred service to the creation rather than the One who created, who is blessed forever, Amen. That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompence, which was due for their error. Those are just a few words by Paul, Do they say the same as that Pope!!?? NO. Ungodly men and women are leading people astray into perversion.

  2. Oh my! Pope Francis! I just made a comment on the news report on legalising prostitution and stated that I await the Church's stands on that issue given that to date they have not come out and stood up forcefully on heterosexual relationships....but there we go! I have had so much respect for the Pope being a radical and practical man, but I am not sure how to take the Pope asking to be more accepting of gays and lesbians...in my opinion, this is truly a sad day in the life of a catholic christian. Then again, how different it is to a man living unmarried or having sex while we are not married and/or having an affair...guess there's no different so I guess .....

    • all sins are sin .none are acceptable and if God says its wrong we cannot sugar coat it in the name of accepting people's way of life .we can respect each other's way of life but stand up firm for what is right .may God have mercy on us all and open our eyes so we can see.

    • The HYPOCRISY is unbelievable.

Re-enforces the point/fact, MAN is so easily corruptible.

The WORD OF THE LORD never changes.

  3. Who are we to question God’s creation? Everything He creates is in His image and is perfect. The conscience of everyone is judged by God ALONE.

This means everyone should mind their own spiritual conduct and leave people who do not share your sexual orientation to answer to God ALONE. Now, that would be mighty civilizing!

I think it is unchristian for someone to feel elevated because he or she is heterosexual. In God’s eyes we are all equal irrespective of your sexual orientation.

I feel so proud that Pope Francis is part of the spiritual movement that calls for a humanizing attitude towards each other whatever your sexual orientation.

  4. Pope Francis is a pragmatic Pope. In time to come he will be known as Pope Francis The Pragmatic or The Pragmatic Pope.

  5. Some Catholic (and other denomination) so called Priest have already said they do NOT believe in God, so what are they doing in that job!!?? HOW can they teach someone to believe in someone they themselves do NOT believe in!!??NOW This person who claim to represent God have made his Public declaration against him also. They have shown that they are the Anti-Christ. A person who go against the teaching of God is NOT a Christian (a follower of his Son) and are liars if they claim they are. As Christians we are told to check the Scriptures as to if some sayings are true because of the anti-Christ who have appeared to Mislead the Holy ones. Also NOT to harm anyone because like ourselves, they (whoever) can repent their past lifestyles and live as Christians; this is why Jesus went to those who were laden down in sin and why the priests Hated him. So Christians do NOT Accept, Tolerate or Condone for fear of reverting back. We have to leave behind all that Stains us, that is what God is telling us; if we don't: we will NOT Inherit the Paradise earth to come. The True God makes the RULES not us Humans. Accept or Reject his Rules of Entry but do NOT tell us you are Christians when your behaviour and Stance say you are NOT. God is the same person as when he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. NO human is Perfect but some of us are trying to live the best we can without Hypocrisy. None of us can invite ourselves into God's Kingdom but some seem to think they can.

    • It always amazes me how ignorance runs rife with the responses I keep reading from you St. Lucians who are always so morally superior behind the anonymity of a key board. I wonder if St. Lucia News Online were to force everyone who post on here to use their real names if the responses given would (1) even be written and (2) still be so banal.
It seems to me that homosexuality is the only topic that you all seem to care to comment on always quoting an antiquated book written thousands of years ago who’s so called laws of life no longer relate to the 21st century. The article also mentioned divorced Catholics but you all failed to pay attention to that mention as all I’m sure you saw was gays and lesbians.
I wish all of you would emancipate yourselves from mental slavery and the years of institutionalized brainwashing that you have been subjected to and open your minds that this is a diverse world and everyone simply is looking to coexist with the same rights and privilege that is automatically granted to heterosexuals.
As a brother of a gay man my family chooses to love him and accept him for who he is. What the rest of you and the world says about him does not matter. The gay fight will continue.

      (7)(17)

      • If you don't like the Negative comments, Then Don't keep pushing this filth in our faces. You would not be so upset If we accepted your brain washing would you!!? If you don't want the adverse comments then keep your filth in your Bedrooms and don't launder it in Public. You have your opinion, we have ours. I don't accept Homosexuality because I would have to be fair and accept all the other sexual filth people do, such as Dogs, Cats, Horses, Donkey's, Dead people, Children, Family members, the list goes on. What makes you think homosexuality is Morally better than those just mentioned??

        (14)(4)

      • Not all ‘irregular situations’ are equal. A divorcee (is understood to be heterosexual) can be accepted in the fellowship of other Christian denomination but this is not true for Christian gays, lesbian or transgender in the Caribbean and in Africa, they are spiritually and socially marginalised.

Catholicism is the ’universal’ Christian church, and the Pope’s comment is significant in attempting to break down prejudices which leave people who are in ‘irregular situations’ out in the cold, in other words, isolated from the Christian church fellowship and the wider society.

Even in tinted glasses, I can speak my truth and expect my truth to be one of many truths and not the ultimate truth. I am against prejudices that devalue PEOPLE, including intellectual pretension. I think your comment; ‘emancipate yourselves from mental slavery and the years of institutionalized brainwashing that you have been subjected’ has a bad whiff of intellectual snobbery.

However, as you attested to the unconditional acceptance your family has given your brother, I am in agreement with you that a family should embrace and love each member irrespective of his or her sexual orientation. Also, the church as a ‘wider family’ should embrace its followers and not discriminate using scriptures.

  6. Hello Pope Francis, Of course, we should be throwing moral laws at gay like stones but not physically sending stones (wosh) behind them. We should be more tolerant of gays by expressing love towards them, by helping them to turn away from what is not acceptable in god's eyesight ( morally wrong) and lead them to the right path

    (18)(11)

  7. Let us remove God from the equation for just one minute. I just have one question:
    What does nature allow?

Because if life is to continue there must be reproduction. And as far as I know is male and female that can contribute to the continuance of life.
So there must be something fundamentally wrong in trying to go against nature.

And what I don't understand is how people conveniently use the love and compassion of Jesus Christ to sell something.

The irony and hypocrisy of man.
Weed, a creation from God himself is viewed as illegal and much hate and negativity is attributed to it.
An unnatural union of same species is being "forced'" on mankind to accept.

I wouldn't blame God if he himself is confused.
