INTERNATIONAL: Philippines cut military ties with USA
Duterte

rodrigo-duterteINDEPENDENT (UK) – “The president of the Philippines has promised to dismantle the nation’s 65-year military alliance with the United States, warning Washington not to treat the nation “like a doormat”.

Rodrigo Duterte has ordered 28 annual military exercises with US forces to be halted and an ongoing US-Philippines amphibious beach landing exercise to be the last in his six-year presidency.

“This year would be the last,” said Mr Duterte, referring to military exercises involving the US in a speech on Friday in southern Davao city.

For as long as I am there, do not treat us like a doormat because you’ll be sorry for it. I will not speak with you. I can always go to China.”

In an attempt to draw back from what Mr Duterte views as too much dependence on the US, 107 American troops involved in operating surveillance drones against Islamic militants will be asked to leave the country once the Philippines acquires its own intelligence-gathering capabilities, Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.

  1. Interesting comments. I wonder what God thinks about the wanton killings? Or, should we say it in a simplified way, what do you think God's view of man killing man is? Or, does God not give a damn!

  2. I admire Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, a true leader who has proven his leadership, as mayor of Davao City. For such a time as this, GOD has given us a true leader, whose love is for his country and people.
Hope the filipinos will stand with him, though there may be some bumpy rides along the way. We need to practice, self-reliance. As the bible says, the precious privilege of any person, is their dignity., which most fiipinos have lost due to extreme poverty, a generation problem both the politicians and churches have ignored!!!
Other asian countries, smaller than the Phlippines, are way ahead of us, in so many ways, especially, economically. Filipinos though educated, are just looked upon as domestic helper in other countries, especially in neighboring countries. Domestic helper with college degrees.
I hope the Catholics bishops, priests would stop interfering, for they have not alleviated the conditions of the poor people of the land. Everytime, I visit the Philippines, I see the poor, and everytime, I cannot help but think why does poverty persist in such a country whose literacy rate is high. and the people, hardworking ? What is the common denominator that this country has with other central american countries? Catholicism. We end up with common problem as well - poverty, drug infested land and corruptions are high .
"When the wicked disappear, the righteous increases". So without death penalty, the wicked increases!
Death penalty for crimes destroying a society, is necessary.

Singaporre, Taiwan, Vietnam, China, and other neighboring countries, their leaders have made a decent life for their people. And these are countries not generally known as christian nations.
I pray that GOD would divinely protect Pres. Duterte and his cabinet members and the filipino people, and may HE watch over the Republic of the Philippines. The poverty- striken filipinos have suffered long enough. Stand in unity! for the sake of the next generation and the Republic of the Philippines.
