Elaine Williams, 47, allegedly posted an ad on Craigslist asking mothers to drop off unwanted babies in a “baby box” at her residence, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
The ad stated the baby must be placed in the box in a blanket, along with a birth certificate and health record for the baby, according to CNN affiliate WGCL. It also specified that the baby should not be a disabled child, the affiliate added.
Williams was allegedly seeking the baby for her 14-year-old daughter, who had stated she wanted a baby, the sheriff’s office said.
The teen’s room had allegedly been “outfitted with a crib, baby formula, diapers, [and] gifts for both sexes,” Sheriff Duane Piper told WGCL. “They were going to find a baby some place.”
