INTERNATIONAL: Elderly couple call 999 because they’re lonely – so the police came round for tea

Anthony_PrestopineINDEPENDENT (UK) – Police have offered tea and sympathy to an elderly couple who rang 999 because they felt lonely.

Two Greater Manchester Police Constables arrived at Fred Thompson and his 95-year-old wife’s home in Middleton, Manchester on Tuesday, after she rang emergency services suggesting her husband was suffering from complications.

PC Stu Ockwell and his colleague PC Richardson believed Mr Thompson had fallen, but on their arrival, discovered the couple had made the phone call out of “desperation” and were not in need of medical attention.

A Tweet from the GMP Middleton read: “Just dealt with a 95-year-old couple who called the Police as they were lonely.

“What else could we do but make them a brew and have a chat.”

  2. Forget the world in general . . . let's consider here in St. Lucia. There are many older persons, here, who are living lonely lives (day and night) while most are going on with their own lives.

Imagine yourself living from day to day without a visit from your children, friends, etc. There is nothing more heartbreaking. No one to talk to, no one to share with. My goodness, there is nothing more frightening.

Please, take some time from your (and my) busy schedules to just pay an half hour (at least) to visit our seniors. They are people too.

And by the way, we will get there one day too.
