Six cars smashed into each other on the packed Gowanus Expressway near 70th St. in Bay Ridge about 6:30 a.m., crushing a red Toyota into a 3-foot-by-3-foot box.
The chain-reaction pile up began when a tow truck stopped to tend to a disabled vehicle on the Staten Island-bound side of the expressway and a minivan smashed into its rear end, officials said. The ill-fated Toyota then hit the minivan and a second truck slammed into the Toyota.
“Between the truck and the minivan, the Toyota was mangled almost like an accordion,” said Detective Peter Whalen, 50, of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit Truck Six. “It looked like it went through a vehicle press.”
Whalen said it was the smallest he’d ever seen a car crushed and remain in one piece in 29 years with the NYPD.

Hmmmm I wonder what was the safety rating on that Toyota cause if mate still alive after all that Toyota making good vehicles eh.
