INTERNATIONAL: Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton 42%-37% in new national poll

By New York Daily News

gop-2016-ivanka-trumpNEW YORK DAILY NEWS – Donald Trump has jumped into a notable lead over likely general election opponent Hillary Clinton in a hypothetical matchup, an eye-popping poll out Thursday showed.

Trump led Clinton by five percentage points, getting 42% support to 37% for the former secretary of state, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll of likely U.S. voters.

Another 13% said they prefer another candidate, while 7% said they were undecided, according to the poll, which was taken among 1,000 likely voters from May 17-18.

The poll, which had a margin-of-error of three percentage points, suggests Trump could be experiencing a popularity surge as he pivots away from many of the controversial and bigoted statements he made during the GOP primary and embraces more establishment positions as he prepares for the general election.

Another poll, released just a day earlier, showed the pair in a dead heat. In a NBC News / Survey Monkey poll released Wednesday, Clinton led Trump 48%-45% — just outside the poll’s 1.2-percentage point margin of error.
