INTERNATIONAL: CIA helped Apartheid regime to arrest Nelson Mandela in 1962

_66922170_compositeBBC – Nelson Mandela’s arrest in 1962 came as a result of a tip-off from an agent of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a report says.

The revelations, made in the Sunday Times newspaper, are based on an interview with ex-CIA agent Donald Rickard shortly before he died.

Mandela served 27 years in jail for resisting white minority rule before being released in 1990.

He was subsequently elected as South Africa’s first black president.

Rickard, who died earlier this year, was never formally associated with the CIA but worked as a diplomat in South Africa before retiring in the late 70s.

  2. Boy the CIA and Americans have some answering to do when the day of reckoning comes. So Mandela one of the greatest humans to walk this earth was sold down the river by a CIA agent. Why are we not surprised we've heard tales of lies, deceit and back stabbing by the CIA from its inception many many years ago, The new Brazil president is reportedly a former CIA informant . It will be interesting to see if the Brazilians allow him to remain Pres.

  5. During the Cold War the United States supported many regimes which committed atrocities and blatant human rights abuses. The apartheid regime in South Africa survived for so long because of the covert and tacit endorsement and support by rich and powerful Western countries.

  6. Just like Zimmerman is haunted by Travon, and the murder weapon, so was that agent haunted by his organization's involvement in Nelson's unjust incarceration. He had to snitch just like Zimmerman is trying to get rid of the murder weapon.
