NEW YORK POST – A Siberian city has gone to the cats — as residents overwhelmingly favor a feline to win this week’s mayoral race.
Barsik, a Siamese kitty, is currently the frontrunner to take over the top seat in Barnaul, a city of 650,000 that is about 2,000 miles east of Moscow.
He faces six other opponents, but a recent online poll shows the cat pawing in 90 percent of the vote ahead of the election.
“The conclusion has been made that there’s absolutely no trust among voters for any of the candidates,” said Ivan Karpov, a Communist Party official.
Regional governor Alexander Karlin and the city council are expected to get together some time this week to pick the city’s next leader.
