Gleydson Carvalho paid the price for his anti-corruption campaign on Radio Liberdade FM in Camocin, in north east Brazil.
The gunmen forced their way into the studio overpowering a receptionist and then forcing a sound engineer to cower underneath a table.
Mr Carvalho was shot three times in the head and twice in the chest.
He died en-route to hospital, while his killers made their escape on a motorbike.
“They came to the station’s facility and said that they had to make an announcement,“ Herbert Silva, a local police chief, said of the killers.
He added that the culprits have been identified.
“We’re going to find them soon because they don’t have water, money, food and they are in a region with a lot of sun, rocks – almost a desert.”
Mr Carvalho was well known for his long-standing campaign against government corruption. According to one friend he would even receive threats while on the air.
