NEW YORK POST: A spiteful Austrian granny destroyed her fortune — just to try to stop her heirs from getting their hands on it.

The 85-year-old woman chopped up 950,000 euros — the equivalent of $1.1 million — shortly before she died, according to AFP.

Authorities found the woman’s dead body surrounded by shredded money at her retirement home.

But her apparent wish to cut off her family won’t work, as Austria’s central bank, OeNB, is likely to replace the cash.

“If we didn’t pay out the money, then we would be punishing the wrong people,” the head of the bank’s cashier division told the Kurier, an Austrian newspaper.

  2. Say what you may, but who feels it , knows it. She was definitely disappointed with the whole lot of them (heirs), likely because of a lack of love and compassion. She must have recognized their interest was solely on that inheritance maybe through infighting. They probably couldn't wait for her to die. However, she could have done a better job than that, because it seems like they can recover the money anyway.

  3. That woman is very wicked and selfish. If you have a problem with you family that's allright. But she could have granted the money to people who are really in need.

  4. What a wicked woman. Instead of cutting it up, why not donate it for the hungry, sick and poor. She sat there and cut up all that money by hand?

  5. I don't agree with her actions, but she probably knows why she did it as sometimes some family members who never worked hard or cannot demonstrate proper money management just waiting for the individual to die so they can benefit. Imagine your hard earn money being left with individuals who can't even comprehend they value of a hard earned dollar.I would donate some to charity should i have any ungrateful heirs that just waiting for me to die.
