“Allow us to join the legions of people congratulating you for your magnificent feats of physical and mental courage displayed for all the world to see at the Rio 2016 Olympics,” said Karolin Troubetzkoy, Executive Director of St. Lucia’s Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain resorts.
The St. Lucia hotelier, who also serves as President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, added: “For those of us who provide hospitality of our region to our many visitors, it is a special joy to witness your successes because you are ambassadors for the Caribbean. With your world class prowess and memorable personalities, you are proving to the world that our pristine water, land, air and nourishing communities produce outstanding champions.”
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Caribbean region collected 28 medals with Cuba and Jamaica tying for 11 medals apiece. The Bahamas collected two medals while Dominican Republic, Grenada, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago collected one each.

Troubetzkoy also highlighted the accomplishments of the numerous athletes of Caribbean ancestry, such as gymnast Simone Biles, who represented other countries at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.
Paying tribute to the exemplary accomplishments of St. Lucian Levern Spencer, who made the women’s high jump finals at the world’s biggest sporting spectacle, and the other members of St. Lucia’s Olympic team, Troubetzkoy awarded the athletes a complimentary weekend stay at Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain.
Jahvid Best (Track & field), Jeanelle Scheper (Track & Field), Stephanie Devaux-Lovell (Sailing), and Jordan Augier (Swimming) joined Spencer in representing St. Lucia at the Rio Games.

  1. Thank you for acknowledging the efforts of our Olympians, no gold medals but a wonderful achievement to even have qualified. Considering the size of our island and its population, the lack of specialist training and investment wow! all Lucian participants I salute you.
I can remember when we yearned for a Lucian to represent us in West Indies cricket , and eventually we had a captain and other team members. A Lucian Olympic gold medal is on the horizon.
And to all the Lucians who fail to acknowledge the athletes efforts I say shame on you all.
