PRESS RELEASE – On Thursday October 08 the Lions and Leos of Castries observed Lions World Service day… This year the day was observed as a week of service in Sight from October 04 to 10.

This year Lions and Leos the world over were invited to participate in a special Lions Worldwide week of service designed to eliminate preventable blindness and improve sight in our communities.

It is a great opportunity to show to our commitment to Sight. The members of the Lions Club of Castries partnered with a charity operated by the management of The Wings of Love and served a hot meal to the homeless in Castries. The Lions participated in serving the meal.

The meal and the desert were sponsored by the Lions.  The Leo Secretary was also present at this activity and can be seen chatting with the patrons.

Following this the patrons were treated with a talk on the Care and Preservation of the eyes. The talk was jointly delivered by Mr. Anthony Avril, The Executive Director of the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association (who himself is blind; and Dr Lendor an optometrist of the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association.

The talk was very interactive as there were lots of questions and answers… There was a call for the lions to return and give them information on diabetes.

Thanks to the Pastor and Management of the Charity for once again giving us the opportunity to be of service; the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association for agree to share information on sight preservation with the homeless, a group of persons who are often forgotten in society.

  1. Great great!
Heart warming to see proof that ordinary St Lucians care about each other.
Whether it be Rotary, Lions, Red Cross or Salvation Army, it's important to give to charity where possible (as I do)
