PRESS RELEASE – CARICOM Climate Change Negotiators and Ministers will hold important talks here in Saint Lucia on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October, 2015 respectively to fine-tune the region`s negotiating artillery for the 21st session of the Conference of Parties (COP 21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change scheduled for November 30 to December 11 in Paris, France.
This second meeting of CARICOM ministers responsible for climate change is a follow-up to talks held here in Saint Lucia on September 18, 2015.
The objective of the meeting is to prepare the ministers to engage in the pre-COP meeting which will be organized by the COP Presidency in November 2015.
With just over one month before the start of COP 21 and on the heels of a climate negotiators preparatory meetings held earlier this month in Bonn Germany, it is an opportune time for CARICOM negotiators and ministers to be updated on the critical issues, especially those with implications for Small Island Developing States and to concretize position(s) going to Paris.
Ministers will be apprised of the state of climate change negotiations under the UNFCC for a new climate change agreement to be finalized at the COP 21 in Paris France in December 2015.
The meeting of CARICOM Ministers responsible for climate change will be preceded by a meeting of the CARICOM climate change Negotiators on Wednesday 28 October, 2015.
A press briefing will be held on Thursday 29th November, 2015 at approximately 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
This is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, the High Level Support Mechanism and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre.
The meetings will be held at the Palmville Conference Room at the Coco Palm Resort on Rodney Bay.
