(BARBADOS TODAY) – A 41-year-old welder, who assaulted the mother of his seven-year-old son, will know his fate on Friday.
Guyanese national Shon Olyneo Success, of Jackman Land, Black Rock, St Michael, who was been living here for over 15 years, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Douglas Frederick to assaulting Kathyann Hinkson on January 5, occasioning her actual bodily harm.
Station Sergeant Neville Reid said the assault occurred just outside Hinkson’s residence as she was returning from an outing with friends. Her daughter, who was with her at the time, sought help from a neighbour and Success was stopped.
Today he admitted before the magistrate that he had lost his cool. Success also stated that he had never hit Hinkson before that day.
He said he had left his son who had a fever and a “serious cold” with Hinkson so he could run an errand at the airport.
“When I get back the boy was alone in the house. I was calling to see if she went for medicine . . . . I left the house and [confront] her on the road and lose my cool. I apologized to her . . . . I was totally wrong because we never had this before,” he said.
However, the magistrate pointed out that the situation was very serious as it took place in the children’s presence.
He then adjourned the case until December 12 in order for Hinkson to attend court.
In the meantime, Success, who was granted $2,500 bail, has been warned to stay 15 yards away from his victim.
