(NEWS ROOM GUYANA) A 31-year-old man was on Tuesday committed to stand trial at the High Court for the murder of 61-year-old Pandit Deonarine Liliah and his 28-year-old son Omkar.
Orlando Douglas of Campbellville, Georgetown was committed by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
The preliminary Inquiry into the two murders concluded on Tuesday when Magistrate Latchman ruled that a prima facie case was made out against Douglas.
Police Prosecutors Shawn Gonsalves and Shellon Daniels led evidence in the case; Douglas was represented by Attorney-at-law Melville Duke.
The indictment alleged that between July 7 – 10, 2018 at Craig Street, Campbellville, Douglas murdered the father and son.
Douglas was not required to plea to the charges.
According to reports, the men’s partly decomposed bodies were found in their Craig Street, Campbellville home on July 10, 2018.
Douglas was arrested at the crime. News Room had reported that a cell phone belonging to one of the dead men was stolen and was traced to Douglas.
A post-mortem examination conducted by Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that both men died from multiple stab wounds.
News Room was informed that the pandit had eight stab wounds to his abdomen, one to the lower back and one to the right hip. His son had three stab wounds to the back, two to the abdomen and two to the chest.
