Ground breaking ceremony held for Fond Assau mini pavilion and playing field

8c83b3ba-fac4-43a5-ab4a-5a7d1178fe09PRESS RELEASE – A sod turning ceremony for a mini pavilion and changing room was held today, 7th January, 2016 at the Fond Assau Playing Field.

In attendance was the Minister with responsibility for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Shawn Edward who reaffirmed his commitment to developing a sporting culture for Saint Lucians.


He also disclosed that the commissioning of lights for the field would be done this year and urged residents to properly utilize the facility, stressing the importance of proper management systems to ensure sustainability of community infrastructure.


Hon. Alvina Reynolds, Parliamentary Representative for Babonneau commended the continued support of the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports for the projects and programmes which it continues to implement in her constituency. She encouraged residents and students who were present to continue using the facility to develop their skills and also to live healthy lifestyles.


The Fond Assau playing field has recently been refurbished by Hon. Alvina Reynolds and the construction of the mini pavilion and changing rooms with the installation of lights holds a promise for further sporting development and recreation for the residents and its environs. The change room is at an estimated cost of $300,000 and set to begin later this month.
