PRESS RELEASE – The Department of Youth and Sports is please to nominate Ms. Raejean Montoute to represent Saint Lucia as the youth delegate to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum on ‘the role of youth in poverty eradication and promoting prosperity in a changing world. The forum will be held at the UN Headquarters in New York from January 30-31, 2017.

The forum will bring youth leaders from around the world and will give them the opportunity to engage with policy-makers and other youth delegates and representatives. It will provide a platform for youth to engage in a dialogue with Member States and share ideas on innovation, collective action and solutions to global problems. It will also address the concept of “shared prosperity”, which is at the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This two-day event will feature interactive dialogues among representatives from youth organizations and other keynote speakers.

Ms. Montoute is a resident of Gros Islet and a graduate of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College who holds an Associate Degree in Computer Systems Engineering. She is the 1st Vice President of Gros Islet Youth Development Council (GYDC), Public Relations Officer of Northern United All Stars, Manager of Northern Arrows Netball Team, Vice President of Gros Islet Cultural Development Committee.

Ms. Montoute is an enthusiastic volunteer within the community, an outstanding public speaker who has participated and won in several debating competitions. She is seasonal speaker at Centre for Adolescence and Remedial Education (CARE) and has volunteered as a Physics teacher at the Castries Comprehensive School. She recently completed an internship as a Digital Marketing Intern with the OECS YES Project at the OECS Commission from July to September 2016.

  1. Wow. I have seen that young lady working with the youths in the north. For once I must admit finally we are selecting the right people to represent us. Hey it's not because she is a Montoute and Lenard Montoute is a minister in that ministry, not sure if the relationship. Check the surname. Same thing. Let's put that aside. That young lady deserve that for all the hard work she is doing to uplift the life of the less fortunate. Keep your head up Hugh young lady, make your country proud.have a safe journey.
