Gros Islet student receives Academic Achievement Award
Gabrielle F. McGowan

PRESS RELEASE – Ever since its formation in 2011, the Prudent Initiative for Gros Islet (PI-GIF), which was founded by Mr. Therold Prudent, has partnered with various local communities to improve lives and thereby effect social change.

The PI-GIF has remained consistently active in its engagement with the people of Gros Islet. Its initiatives range from the establishment of the Gros Islet Home and Garden Club—which provides residents with hundreds of packages containing vegetable seeds of various kinds and hand tools with which to cultivate their own backyard gardens—to the distribution of backpacks and school supplies to disadvantaged children, the disbursement of academic scholarships, the establishment of an afterschool music programme and the creation of a hot spot where residents of the Gros Islet community can access free Wi-Fi services.

Therefore, based upon the understanding of the PI-GIF and in keeping with the motto that “one does not have to be elected to demonstrate relevance to their community”, another worthy initiative has been established by Mr. Prudent.

The Academic Achievement Award, which seeks to honour students who have performed remarkably well in the Common Entrance Exams and have topped the overall scores at the local community school selected for the annual award, goes to Gabrielle F. McGowan of the Grande Riviere Primary School.

Miss McGowan, who achieved a total score of 87.67%, has gained admission to the Saint Joseph’s Convent. The provisions of the award will ensure that she receives a trophy and the sum of EC $500.00 from the foundation.

Let us all come together in offering our sincere congratulations and encouragement to this very promising young lady.
