Gros-Islet Street Party wins Tripadvisor’s Certificate of Excellence

PRESS RELEASE – Maintaining Saint Lucia’s high reputation amongst its visitors, the historic Gros-Islet Street Party is the 2015 winner of a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, in recognition of consistently highly rated reviews published by visitors on the TripAdvisor website, the world’s largest travel site.

The Gros Islet Street Party is a staple of St. Lucian life and has come to be the preferred way to end the work week since its inception in the early 1980’s.

It has successfully integrated tourists and locals in its weekly jubilation and features high on visitor “must do” lists when in Fair Helen.

Rather than sit on its laurels, the Gros Islet Constituency Council is ensuring at least another 35 years of safe Friday Night revelry by addressing the occasional negative comment and improving security, traffic management, visitor facilities and by looking to develop and diversify the event for a wider audience.

To that end the Council has established a Management Committee involving stakeholders including the SLHTA (who chair the Committee), Vendors, Restaurants, Police, NEMO and Residents.

Significant improvements have already been achieved in security, traffic management, car parking and visitor eating areas and it is anticipated that this summer will see the installation of visitor toilets and a semi-permanent Police and First Aid station.

The Street Party provides a unique opportunity for visitors to mix and party with Saint Lucians and provides significant income for the Vendors, Bar-Keepers and Restaurateurs of Gros Islet Town.

The Management Committee is committed to maintaining and enhancing that unique spirit.

  1. Speaking of street parties... What's going on for this year's New Year's Eve??? Do Gros Islet, Castries and Marigot all have street parties? Which ones are the best? I'll be there in a few weeks and would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks!

  2. Very good point my brother.I have noticed that, too. These awards there are alot behind the curtain going on.I have notice so many hotel's receiving awards.When-ever something is about to impact on our visitors.Awards are coming out to brush away the dry skin on that wound. They will never tell you that, these same tourist gave them a bundle of money but, never got what they paid for when it comes to service.Just, know how to make other visitors believed that, nothing has happened.Since, trip advisory came into exsistance to me we are sitting on a gold mine of awards one after thee other in this country.Who benefits in huge financies in all those awards? It's still a peanut minimum wage for all low income earners in this country. We getting awards but, alot of that money goes back oversees.Go and see them in hot bathe's and jacuzze's.Ha!Ha!

  3. Is it a coincident that whenever something is going wrong in our country the government seem to always pull out a rabbit from a hat to make that wrong thing seem OK? Is it a coincident that just after a few incident of violence at the Gros-Islet Street Party, they are getting such award?

  5. It appears to me that, violence doesn't impact our tourist industry. For years now,our local people on every talk show has been poundering on violence in St.lucia but,it seems to me that, the tourist are open minded when it comes to this worldwide violence. So let's not blah, blah, too much about crime will affect the tourist industry. These same tourist are now, rating our street party regardless all those issues which has recently, plagued around the street party.Isn't that surprising?War and social troubles are compromised by people all over the world. What those selfish D'Jays should be doing is to release the microphone for one or two free style performances.I know what am saying,i have been to Jamaica seafood festival,Oisteins in Barbados, and many other street party's with that kind of atmosphere boosting thee entire seen in general.Once i went to the street party, where i saw the Djay having a yellow type surrounded him and his equipments while playing music.I stood up and said! What kind of thing is that?Should a djay sealed his premises at the time of entertaining people?I used to enjoyed Djay's in conway like Big Jerry,Austin with studio one.Nowadays, our djays at the street party are missing alot of credible things in that regard. They don't know what are those tunes which can stimulate the crowd and keep the visitors in thee area abit longer to spend money.Check this out then tell me on this friday!
