The initiative started with youth and community activist Ms. Raejean Montoute who saw a need to include a higher density of women in Gros Islet sporting. Gros Islet being known island wide for its participation in football and cricket which are usually male dominated sports, Ms. Montoute says it’s now time for a new breathe of sporting for the community.
Although netball isn’t something new to the community of Gros Islet, it has been dormant over the past years. Ms. Raejean Montoute says she is very committed to the Netball initiative, she has also dictated that “Although today we started with four girls, I’m confident that our team will grow and eventually we will move from a team to becoming an official club recognized under Netball Saint Lucia and the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports”.
The Gros Islet Netball Team also plans to involve parents and persons in the community in the development of the group.
