Gros Islet District Representative Competition finals

PRESS RELEASE – The Gros Islet District Representative Football Competition’s Finals was held on Sunday 23rd November at the Gros Islet Playing Field featuring the 3rd place play off with Northern B vs Police and the Grand Finals featuring Monchy vs Windjammer.

The Competition started with a Parade of the Northern B and Police Teams for the 3rd place Play-Off with the District Representative Miss Emma Hippolyte and the President of the Gros Islet Football League Mr. Shane Paul and other members greeting the Teams.

At the end of the 1st half of the game the score was 0-0.  Northern B however scored their 1st goal in the 46th minutes from Nicholas Lawrence and at the end of the game Northern B won the 3rd place over Police 1-0.

The Grand Finals kicked off with a Parade of the two finalist Windjammer and the Monchy Team which were also greeted by the District Representative Miss Emma Hippolyte, President of the Gros Islet League Mr. Shane Paul and PRO of the League Miss Jennifer Gaston

At the end of the 1st half the score was 0-0.  Monchy took the lead in the 2nd half with a goal from Miradad Soudine in the 77th minutes and Windjammer equalized with a goal from Rannick Dubois in the 89th minutes.  At the end of the game the score was 1-1 which led straight to penalties with Windjammer winning the finals over Monchy 5-4.

Following the games the Award Presentations were done with the President of the Gros Islet Football League, representative of Dubolley Bottling Company and the District Representative Miss Emma Hippolyte giving remarks and presenting the medals and Trophies.

Individual Awards were presented to Mr. Shane Paul of Police Team for the most goals and the MVP of the Tournament was presented to Pessius Pollius of the Windjammer Team.

The Gros Islet Football League would like to thank all 16 Teams which took part in the Competition, Sponsors, the massive crowed which turned out for the Finals and all the Media for their support.  The League will be putting plans in place for the year 2015.
