SLHTA NEWSLETTER – The 2015 Gros Islet Carnival Queen contestants visited the Springboard Training Centre last Friday to experience a taster session on Springboard’s International Bartenders Certificate (IBC) programme.
The contestants had a great time working with Springboard’s students, whilst learning how to make some tasty cocktails. In fact one contestant will be awarded a scholarship to attend the IBC programme, opening the door to a brand new and well paid career for the lucky winner.
Springboard’s International Bartending Certificate has been developed with one goal in mind, to produce the best Bartenders in the Caribbean.
Over the last two years, Springboard has successfully trained and obtained job placements for over 400 Bar Service Staff with the World’s leading Cruise Line Company.
The new IBC programme will offer the same high level training to ensure that graduates can bring their Bartending skills to the hotel and tourism industry in St Lucia and the surrounding Caribbean. Springboard is very proud of the fact that our Bar graduates have the knowledge, skills, personality and work ethic to become an immediate asset to their employers.
The IBC is a certificated 4 week programme, 25% of which is spent in classroom instruction while 75% is focused on practical hands on sessions at the bar.
Trainees on this programme will make and taste, over 50 different types of international & specialty Caribbean cocktails and will learn to taste and assess products from the main groups of spirits. Trainees will also develop a specialty appreciation of Caribbean rums, their production and use within Caribbean style cocktails.
Finally we wish the contestants the very best of luck on the 16th August when the Gros Islet Carnival Queen will be crowned at the Sandals Grande.
