ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Feb 25, CMC – A 48-year-old mother will re-appear in court on May 30 after she was released on EC$15,000 (One EC dollar=US$0.37 cents) bail on a charge of maiming her 11–year-old daughter.
The court heard that the middle toe of the child was cut off on February 15 after she had become involved in a dispute with her 15-year-old sister.
The mother is alleged to have taken a knife and cut off the toe.
If convicted, the mother, a laundry attendant, can be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in jail.
“A person who intentionally and unlawfully causes a maim or any dangerous harm to any other person commits an offence and is liable on conviction on indictment to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 20 years,” according to section 208 of the Criminal Code.
