A Hawksbill turtle was slaughtered on the Sandy Beach in Vieux Fort in the wee hours of Tuesday 13th June, 2016.
The Grand Anse Sea Turtle and Nature Defenders would like to remind the public specifically poachers of the importance of Sea turtles.
All species of sea turtles found in Saint Lucia are currently listed as endangered or critically endangered.
Sea turtles can provide sustainable livelihoods in the form of eco -tourism hence the reason why we as Saint Lucians should protect Sea turtles and condemn the indiscriminate slaughtering.
The Defenders have made turtle protection a priority for the past five years and we will continue to ensure that this concern of ours does not go unheard.
Our endangered species need protecting and this needs to be achieved for the betterment of tourism in the Helen of the West. Poaching is not accepted and we will not condone this.
Perpetrators should immediately cease from such disturbing activities.
