Gov’t press secretary to participate in US Leadership Program
Jadia Jn Pierre, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister of St. Lucia is participating in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.
Jadia Jn Pierre.

PRESS RELEASE – Jadia Jn Pierre will travel to the United States as the latest Eastern Caribbean candidate of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

Jn Pierre is the Press Secretary to the Prime Minister of St. Lucia. She will take part in a one-week professional exchange program on renewable energy with 11 other candidates from the region.

In June 2014, United States Vice President Joe Biden unveiled the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative (CESI) to help the Caribbean improve its energy security.

The United States Government’s commitment to energy security in the Caribbean was reinforced by the Vice President’s Caribbean Energy Security Summit (CESS) held in Washington, D.C. on January 26, 2015.

It was also discussed by President Barack Obama during his meeting with CARICOM heads of government in Kingston, Jamaica on April 29, 2015.

This program on renewable energy, energy regulation, and energy security is a deliverable from CESI, CESS, and the President’s meeting with CARICOM leaders.

This project is designed for government policy makers and officials who manage and/or regulate energy producers and distributors; officials charged with increasing the adoption of renewable energy by consumers and retailers; academics who specialize in these areas; and representatives of non-governmental organizations that advocate for clean energy and alternative fuel solutions.

This program will help participants gain an understanding of best practices in the United States in energy regulation, energy investments, and emerging renewable energy technologies that can be adopted in their respective countries.

The program will begin on July 19 in Washington, D.C., and it will include travel to Burlington, Vermont.  The program concludes on July 25.

The IVLP is the Department of State’s premier, professional exchange program.  The program brings together emerging leaders in their respective professions to learn how U.S. experts in that profession operate and to share best practices with the other program candidates who hail from the same region and across the globe.

  1. I am sooo disappointed with the Labour Administration for this! There is a totally wrong perception in looking at these kinds of events as a PERK! It is NOT! This is an opportunity for the REAL people behind energy renewal to represent our country. I hope Minister Fletcher understands that this can seriously derail some of the strides being made by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and companies like LUCELEC. This is total CRAP. #Making St. Lucia ashame

  3. You people out here are just rediculus. Every year the state department comb through the Americas for future influential people, to indoctrinate them on the american way. This selection has nothing to do with the administration. Every year they hand pick who they want. So stop this useless noise.

    • I checked out the programme and yes the US embassies choose the names but the nominations come from government. This one relates to renewable energy so what is she gonna say on this area? I am not hating and she can go represent in the spin doctors assistant area just not renewable energy. Check out other St. Lucians who were chosen and their area of specialization

  4. Nepotism at it's best! Kenny continues to say to us that we can beat our ass all we want he will do things his way. Given that this non entity's role is a political appointment, of what use will this experience be to split tooth who won't be employed when SLP loses? Isnt it better to have someone engaged in this field attend? And y'all belief Kenny love Lucians? Kenny is a dictator running this country for himself and his merry men and women!

  6. MY GOD!!!! Ok I didn't necessarily agree with her attending the London Summit for upcoming Caribbean Leaders but somewhat understood given that she is Press Secretary. But this is just indefensible. There are more than a dozen junior level specialists in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, who would benefit from this. What the hell. I wonder if Jimmy Fletcher knows she is the one attending, since he has been in Ethiopia this week. Giving good and meaningful contribution for St.Lucia and Caricom.

"This project is designed for government policy makers and officials who manage and/or regulate energy producers and distributors; officials charged with increasing the adoption of renewable energy by consumers and retailers; academics who specialize in these areas; and representatives of non-governmental organizations that advocate for clean energy and alternative fuel solutions." LOL..Jadia does that? How about a young professional in the Ministry of Sustainable Development. Cronyism and Nepotism at its finest!

    • I will tell u why? When people like her who can afford is given my tax money to pay her medical bill and those less fortunate are not afforded the same opportunity! When people like her is given 200000 of my tax money at the end of her contract for being Kennys roro girl and mouthpiece! When people like her feel it is okay to go in social media and call people all kinds of names and thinks that she is justified because Kenny is her backa!

  9. I really do not understand HOW this girl who has zero to no qualifications in anything is afforded so much opportunity! The blatant nepotism under this administration is ridiculous.

  10. The program is on "Renewable Energy". What on earth does this have to do with the press secretary position? This is yet another reason why i cannot vote for this government again. The article states "This project is designed for government policy makers and officials who manage and/or regulate energy producers and distributors". So unless she is a policy maker with academics is in government policy or she is an official in the area of energy production and distribution, she has no place there.

Government is blatantly not awarding these opportunities to those who deserve them. Are you telling me there is not one person in Dr. James Fletcher's ministry who has the ability and background to understand and contribute meaningfully. Opportunities like these should be made to benefit the country, for the betterment of the people. Not something political.

BTW what is Kenny trying to achieve with this young lady? IF he is grooming her to one day take over the slp party, she is unfortunately already disliked by the public. she has done nothing for society to merit the amount of tax payers dollars she receives on a monthly basis nor what she has gotten in gratuity pay...smh Politrix at work.

    • When concerns are raised and other professionals who have some knowledge in the renewable energy speaks she will just nod her head and clap since she knows nothing relating to renewable energy program.

  11. My thoughts exactly Tonito. As per the paragraph which gives the criteria, Jadia is clearly out of place. Parties and politicians will always reward their boys and girls at the expense of more deserving people.Jadia is not one to decline privileged and preferential treatment either, no matter how unfair.

    (1)(0)

  12. What was the criterion used to choose her. Does she have credentials in renewable energy, does she work in the Ministry of Energy, is she a leader in the regional energy field, is she the leader of major youth or adult eco organization. Oh sorry, she is the Press Secretary so can be just a trip for the girls.

    (3)(0)

    • Exactly, it says academics who specialize in these areas; and representatives of non-governmental organizations that advocate for clean energy and alternative fuel solutions. So which one is she?
