Philina Satney, commonly referred to as ‘Mum’, passed away on Friday evening. She was 96.
Acting Prime Minister Philip J Pierre said government extends condolences, strength and best wishes to the Opposition leader and his family in this time of grief.
“The nation learned with great sadness of the death of the mother of the Leader of the Opposition Honourable Stephenson King on Friday night, and on behalf of the Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny D Anthony, who is out of state, and the entire government, I extend sincere condolences to Mr. King and his family on the death of their mother,” Pierre said.
The acting prime minister said government shares in the grief and sorrow that is being felt by the King family at this time. He said the government of Saint Lucia wishes the family strength in God, to have faith in the Almighty’s promise that they will see their love one again.
“We know very well that any death is tragic, much less the death of someone as close as a mother, so we can empathise with the way Mr. King and his family feels and we wish them strength and hope and that they will live in the fond memories of their mother. On behalf of the government of Saint Lucia, the prime minister, Cabinet and members of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, we wish Honourable Stephenson King our deepest condolences and sympathy and give him strength to carry what is a very heavy burden,” Pierre added.
