The festivities, which last throughout the month of February, begin on Saturday the sixth with the Independence Gospel Fest. This annual event, a longtime favorite, is scheduled to take place at the Mt. Zion Church of God, 203 E 37th Street, Brooklyn (between Linden Blvd and Church Avenue), beginning at 7:00 PM.
Featured are performances by a host of Saint Lucian gospel artists and groups, including Emrand Henry, Shem Meluce, PJ Stanislas, Ashley Norbert, Billy Poyotte, Vessels of Honor, and Saint Lucia’s Children of Culture.
H.E. Ms. Menissa Rambally, Saint Lucia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is expected to be in attendance, and to address the gathering.
Other planned Independence 37 activities will include the Independence Lecture, a flag-raising ceremony, the Independence 37 Gala, the Independence 37 Ecumenical Service, the Young Saint Lucian Professionals Mixer, and the Saint Lucia Cultural Explosion. Further details about these and other events will be announced shortly.
The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York encourages all Saint Lucians in the tri-state area to participate in the planned events, and help strengthen bonds within the diaspora community.
